Chevron Ecuador Case

Chevron v. Donziger (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit)
Chevron Corporation has brought a RICO action in New York against Ecuadorian rainforest communities and their advocates in an effort to collaterally attack an $8.6 billion Ecuadorian judgment holding Chevron accountable for its decades of pollution in the Amazon. The district court (Kaplan, J.) granted Chevron an extraordinary injunction blocking worldwide collection on the judgment.
Our firm represents U.S. lawyer Steven Donziger, the principal defendant in the RICO case. Deepak Gupta serves as Donziger’s lead appellate counsel, and is joined by Justin Marceau and John Campbell, both law professors at the University of Denver. Professor Burt Neuborne of New York University Law School represents the Ecuadorian villager co-defendants on appeal.
Oral argument was held in New York on April 20, 2015. In August 2016, the Second Circuit panel decided in favor of Chevron. We filed a rehearing petition on September 16, 2016.
