Joyce Dela Peña is Gupta Wessler’s 2021-2022 Washington, D.C. Fellow in Appellate and Constitutional Litigation. She joins the firm following judicial clerkships with Judge Guido Calabresi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Judge Amit P. Mehta of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and Judge Corinne A. Beckwith of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Joyce graduated from Georgetown Law, where she was a Blume Public Interest Law Scholar. As a law student, she worked at The Bronx Defenders, Equal Justice Under Law, Relman & Colfax PLLC, Public Justice, and the Special Litigation Division of the D.C. Public Defender Service. In addition to successfully representing a Salvadoran asylum-seeker through Georgetown’s immigration clinic, she was also a student attorney in Brian Wolfman’s Appellate Courts Immersion Clinic, where she worked on a medical device preemption case before the Ninth Circuit and a Section 1983 Brady lawsuit on behalf of a wrongly-convicted defendant in the Fifth Circuit. Before law school, Joyce was a litigation assistant at the Prison Law Office, where she worked on class-action lawsuits challenging unconstitutional prison conditions. She received her B.A. in American Studies from Stanford University.
